Indanthrene Blue outlines for a Scottish seascape

Photo of Indanthrene Blue outlines for a Scottish seascape

On this occasion, I accidentally selected the wrong blue from my paint drawer. It is easy to make this mistake when you have a good selection of blue paint tubes arranged in no particular order. Unfortunately, I did not notice my mistake until I had squeezed a small amount into my palette.

I did not want to waste the Indanthrene Blue I had picked up instead of Ultramarine Blue, so I painted the outlines for the Scottish seascape with the Indanthrene Blue to see where it would lead.

However, I was planning to continue my exploration with the limited colour palette I had previously chosen:

  • Burnt Sienna
  • Raw Sienna
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Titanium White.

I had forgotten I had prepared two sheets of watercolour paper with different amounts of Yellow Ochre, a colour not included in that limited palette.

The first sheet of watercolour paper has only Yellow Ochre. The second sheet of watercolour paper is a light cream made with a small amount of Yellow Ochre mixed with lots of Titanium White.
